There are many schools that offer all levels of degrees in nutrition throughout the US. Nutrition programs provide students with knowledge concerning the food people eat and its impact on their health. Graduates of nutrition programs are in great demand in both the public and private sectors. The nutritional program usually starts with an introduction to nutrition, including food processing, human physiology, and scientific skills. Then students study topics such as nutritional assessment, health promotion, sports nutrition, and health relationships.

After that, they study such advanced topics as disease, applied nutrition, and public health nutrition.
Sometimes students of nutrition come to the discipline with background in another healthcare discipline, such as doctors, dentists, nurses, and chiropractors. Students can earn master’s of degrees in nutrition, which are focused on preventative, adjunctive, and alternative strategies for increasing nutrition. During their education they usually take courses such as biostatistics, counseling, biochemistry, and public health administration.

If your goal is a nutrition degree, then you’ll need to complete coursework in areas such as nutrition, foods, chemistry, biology, institution management, biochemistry, physiology, and microbiology. In addition, you may take such courses as sociology, computer science, mathematics, psychology, sociology, business, and economics.

After completing your nutrition degree, you may choose one of the following career paths:

  • Clinical dietician
  • Community dietician
  • Management dietician
  • Consultant dietician

It’s very important to underline that in 31 states, you’ll need to acquire licensure in order to work as a nutritionist. However, 14 states require that you obtain certification. And only one requires registration.
