Kansas State University, which is normally reduced to K-State is an institution of higher learning located in Manhattan, Kansas, United States. The university has an enrollment of 21,570 students officially spring for the 2009-2010 school year. A branch campus is located in Salina, Kansas, housing the College of Technology and Aviation. Another branch campus, known as Olathe Innovation Campus, is currently under construction in Olathe, Kansas.Once completed, the Olathe facility will present academic research in the BioScience Park Kansas, and bioenergy research, plant health, animal science and food safety and security. The university is classified as a research university with very high research (UK / VH) by the Carnegie classification of institutions of higher education. Kansas State University, originally named Kansas State Agricultural College, was founded during the Civil War on February 16, 1863 as Land Grant institution under the Morrill Act. The school was the first Land Grant College newly created under the Morrill Act, although several other universities claim to be the oldest Land Grant school. K-State is the fourth oldest school
