The B.S. nutrition Program in San Jose State University prepares graduates for a career as a nutritionist, nutritionists, packaging professionals, nutritionists and food service professionals in educational institutions, acute (hospital) and long-term care facilities, nutrition and food research laboratories, businesses and industries, and Community and government agencies.

The Bachelor of Science program in Nutritional Science integrates the principles of chemical, biological, and social sciences. The B.S. program offers three concentrations:

1. Food Science & Technology
2. Dietetics
3. Packaging

The B.S. Program also offers a general degree in Nutritional Science with no concentration, but with five emphases:

- Environmental Food and Health Specialist
- Nutrition Science
- Sports Nutrition
- Neonatal Nutrition
- Food Management

To be a registered Dietitian, students must first complete an educational program, approved and accredited by the ADA.The student must be the institution where these courses are completed review of their transcripts and issue the student a final statement before the student can review a dietetic internship in force.

The dietetic internship is usually administered by a hospital or a medical school accredited by the ADA.The internship programs are designed to provide individual and supervised experience that meet the qualifications for the practice of dietetics as a Registered Dietitian.
